Itasca State Park
Itasca state park is the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The park is the oldest state park in Minnesota and has been around since 1891.
There is so much to do at Itasca State Park. I have camped at Itasca State Park and was in a relaxing campground. Not loud and the campground is located close to all the other activities. The bathrooms were clean. Lots of flat ground for you to pitch a tent on. The lake was about 100 feet from our campsite. The sunsets and sunrises were gorgeous.
My granddaughter loved playing in the playgrounds and down by the water. You can walk across the river where it starts. I try to go out there at least once a year and every year I see something new. It really is a fabulous place. Pack a picnic and spend the whole day
There is so much to do at the park. Some of the of interest were the old growth pine forests. Historic sites and structures are all over the park. You can also hike, bike, boating, paddling, fishing, birding wildlife watching, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
There is a lodge you can stay at if you are not a camper. Make sure you check out the gift shop and take a walk to the start of the Mississippi river.
